Artists at the UPFI

Film on National Artist Arturo Luz

In fitting commemoration of the National Arts Month, the UP Film Institute screens Ricky Orellana's documentary on National Artist Arturo Luz this Friday, 9 February 2007, at 5 p.m.

Entitled Lines of Vision, the film sketches a portrait of Arturo Luz through the medium of several voices. Dubbed as "a filmwork designed in the manner of a Luz painting," the Black Soup production with support from the Committee on Art Galleries of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts evokes "simple lines, vibrant relationships, and an unwavering sensitivity to its subject."

Lines of Vision leads a special selection of distinct screenings for the UP Film Institute Videotheque this February. It will be followed by Obrang Di Tapos-Rembrandt Vocalan's short film on National Artist Botong Francisco and Signed: Lino Brocka-the celebrated 1987 documentary by Christian Blackwood that won the Peace Film Award at Berlin.

Succeeding Fridays will respectively feature The Wonderful, Horrible Life of Leni Riefenstahl (Feb 16 Fri 5 p.m.) and National Artist Lamberto Avellana's film version of National Artist Nick Joaquin's A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino starring National Artist Daisy Avellana (Feb 23 Fri 5 p.m.).
