UP Film Institute ushers in NEW YEAR 2007

The UP Film Institute welcomes New Year 2007
with an array of big-screen offerings.

The varied lineup is kicked off by the special full run for the international version of Kaleldo-Brillante Mendoza's family drama hailed as one of the best Filipino films of the year.

On a visit to the Philippines, student filmmaker Lars Mryvang-a Filipino Norwegian born in Rome and attending school in Australia (Bond University,Gold Coast)-screens his short film, Old Boys with New Tricks. Interested audiences are invited to an informal interaction with the director right after the screening on Jan 5 Fri.

A medley of interesting titles from Thailand, India, China, Hong Kong and the Philippines-that cut across a noteworthy variety of thematics and genres-constitutes a virtual homage to Asia that has now become UP Film Institute's annual tradition.

A highlight for the month is a retrospective of screen classics written by the late Amado Lacuesta Jr.

Spotlight is directed at the emergent filmmaking in the country with eKsperim[E]nto moving force Elvert de la Cruz Bañares' showcase of his own works.

For a taste of first-rate world cinema, savor a twinbill by master director John Duigan plus some surprise treats for Cinema Australia courtesy of the Australian Embassy.
